Preventive measures put in place to halt spread of Ebola

An outbreak due to the Ebola virus has been confirmed in the Republic of Uganda, i.e., in Bundibugyo and Mbarara districts as well as the town of Fort Portal. Despite the fact that no Ebola case has been reported on the Rwandan territory, the Ministry of Health in coordination with TRACplus - the Center for Infectious Diseases Control- and the National Reference Laboratory, is taking the Ebola outbreak in Uganda seriously and continues to closely monitor all developments. NOTE A L’INTENTION DES FORMATIONS SANITAIRES DU RWANDA

1. JUSTIFICATION DE LA SURVEILLANCE

Récemment une épidémie à virus d'Ebola a été confirmée en Ouganda, le foyer principal de cette épidémie est le district de Bundibugyo qui est un district limitrophe de la RDC. Bien que jusqu’à présent il n'y a aucun cas rapporté du virus d’ébola au Rwanda, le ministère de la santé reste vigilant sur cette maladie, étant donné qu’il y a beaucoup de mouvements entre le Rwanda et l’Ouganda, de ce fait, en collaboration avec TRAC PLUS, et LNR, le MINISANTE a développé des mesures préventives nécessaires pour empêcher la survenue de la maladie sur  le territoire du pays ; ainsi, il est invité à toutes les formations sanitaires de contribuer à l’identification précoce des cas d’alerte [Plus de détails]

The Treatment and Research AIDS Centre wins the African ICT Achievers Awards!

TRACnet, a system that uses cell phones, text messages and a SQL Server database has revolutionized the way health care workers treat AIDS patients in Rwanda. TRACnet was recognized as a winner at the 9th Annual African ICT Achievers Awards ceremony held at a Gala Event on the 17 November 2007, at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa, where the winners of the awards were announced in true African style.

TRACnet was awarded as one of the top seven Public sectors embracing ICT in Africa-n 2007.

At the same Gala dinner, TRAC was awarded the overall winner for TOP ICT organisation award.

On this occasion, His Excellency the President of Rwanda was awarded with a the Lifetime Achievers Award for his dedication to the proliferation of the ICT industry in Rwanda and across the continent as well as the promotion of the use of technology within governments for better service delivery to citizens.

Early this year, TRACnet was internationally recognized as a practical and sustainable model for the application of information technology to health program management and won the UNECA’s Technology in Government in Africa (TIGA) award for “improved health services through ICT”.

TRAC, dedicates these achievements to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Rwanda for his proliferation of ICT in Rwanda.
