WORKSHOP
The
Rwanda Health and Education Information Network (RHEIN) is a proposed
project to be
submitted to International Development Research Centre (IDRC) for
funding consideration so as to re- enforce the use of Information,
Communication & Technology (ICT) in both medical
education and clinical management of patients.

This workshop
proposal is for funding request for a consultative workshop to help gather ideas
of how this project would best be implemented. The TRACPlus-Center for
Infectious Disease Control (CIDC) and the Kigali Health Institute (KHI) will be
the leading government of Rwanda agencies at the implementation of the project.
TRACPlus-CIDC
will closely collaborate with Partners In Health (PIH) at implementing the
clinical component of the project. Kigali Health Institute will lead the
e-learning for Nurses Component.
By giving welcoming remarks,
Prof. Dr. KRAMER Michael, the Director General of TRAC Plus-CIDC,
highlighted the progress in information systems and its use
in providing quality health care in Rwanda. Professor KRAMER illustrates the
main objectives of the RHEIN workshop and the role of TRAC Plus-CIDC in
collaboration with KHI as the leading government agencies in the implementation
of the project especially the clinical component

The KHI Rector Representative said that
RHEIN aims are to improve and expand the academic and professional training for
health workers in Rwanda.
Dr Michael Clarke, Director, Information
and Communication for Development in IDRC, mentioned the importance of
scientific research in Africa as an important tool in identifying problems and
solutions.
In the official opening of RHEIN Workshop, the Honourable
Minister of Health Dr Jean Damascène NTAWUKULIRYAYO reminded the aim of RHEIN
project and emphasized on Government of Rwanda commitment in
re-enforcing the use of ICT in fostering development in all sectors especially
health. He also highlighted the importance of ICT in improving the health system
(sector) in Rwanda.
