What is already in place?
- Surveillance of Influenza Like Illness(ILI )and Acute Severe Respiratory Illness SARI cases have been heightened at all levels ( Referral Hospitals, District Hospital and Health centers);
- Rapid response teams at national and District Hospital have been trained and are ready to be deployed any time in case the Influenza A (H1N1)outbreak happens in Rwanda;
- 6 Influenza surveillance sites were set up throughout the country and are operational;
- The sentinel sites and all District Hospitals have been informed about the outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1) in order to intensify surveillance for unusual outbreaks of influenza-like illness and severe pneumonia;
- Tamiflu stock pile of 14256 adult doses have been procured All hospitals have been instructed to spare at least two isolation rooms for suspected Influenza cases;
- Most of the supplies are available in country (diagnostics, PPE, disinfectants); supplies (Tamiflu, N95 masks) that need to be procured from outside have been identified and where they can be obtained from have been established;
- National Reference Laboratory is testing specimen from sentinel sites and is submitting reports to WHO –country office on regular basis
- The country operation emergence preparedness and Response plan has been made in collaboration with stakeholders and have been shared
- Table top exercise has been conducted to test the country preparedness and response plan to Influenza A (H1N1) 2009.
